Can be enjoyed equally now until infinity and beyond! Just bear in mind that over time it will lose freshness and sweetness as the sugar and tannin drop out of solution, forming a harmless sediment, but creating a drier and more savoury wine.

In the cave beneath Maxwellโ€™s McLaren Vale estate, three very different fortified wines have been biding their time: this rare and old tawny, along with a vintage Shiraz and a white fortified.

This rare, barrel-aged fortified wine has been patiently crafted from multiple vintages and matured in seasoned oak casks for two decades.ย 

What time takes as the angelsโ€™ share it returns in depth and complexity.ย  Richly layered fortified Shiraz reveals notes of dried blackberry, dark chocolate, fig and warm spice.ย 

Viscous and concentrated, itโ€™s the perfect match for aged cheddar, smoked almonds or dark chocolate truffles.

Caramel, honeycomb, Christmas cake, nuts and spice, with that unmistakable tawny hue that comes as red fruit slowly shifts hues, like a moody winter storm.

In the grand tradition of a stack of old fortified barrels resting quietly in the back corner of the winery, this is a joy to see released at its average 20 year mark, built mostly around 2004-2006 vintages with older material going back to the early 1990s adding aged tawny characters. Crafted from an original blend of McLaren Vale Shiraz and Petit Verdot, its preservation with lighter brandy spirit over time now reveals a rich fruit cake vibe, roasted figs and Brazil nuts, polished leathers, and a balanced
caramel-like sweetness. Super approachable for its style with an encouraging energy and gentle acidity helping to give this a lighter finish. Winter desserts, a slab of Christmas cake, or just the joy of a late night tipple on it own. Swoon. ย ย ย ย
